A Lesson To Be Learned

How does it feel Mr. Klink?? That is the question that leaps to mind after reading the article about the State dropping the Truck Traffic issue. This should be a lesson learned as so many Owasco residents cared passionately about many, many things and were ignored by a board that had already made up their mind. What about your own board members that care about an issue and have been ignored and left out of the loop. The eye rolling, heavy sighs, disrespect for their feelings or cause.
Lets recall just a few of those times….
- Sewer District #2 petitions passed against it and ignored. Numerous residents and officials voicing concerns over future problems if Sewer #1 was not fully repaired first-- ignored.
- M.J. O’Leary playground- So many residents stated that it was unnecessary to rename it. As it is everyone but those at the Town Hall still refer to it as the “Owasco Playground.”
- Use of Eminent Domain to take a residents property
- Sewer overflows into the outlet resident ignored until a consent order
- Sewer overflows into residents basements residents ignored. (See #1 and add a new consent order to the list).
- Ordering a new recycling truck when there were cheaper options
- Residents who requested the assessors contract not be renewed because of being treated horribly
- Residents’ pleas to reject the Galor subdivision project unless it was restructured to a much smaller scale.
- Residents asking for help with stop signs, speed limit signs, traffic control all to be reluctantly heard and immediately shot down with no discussion by the board.
- Requests that the last re-assessment be rejected by the board and done by an outside agency.
Does any of this ring a bell?? None of the above issues were any less important to those pursuing them than the Truck Traffic issue was to Mr. Klink. Lets hope a lesson was learned and can be incorporated into future decisions. It really stinks to care about an issue and have all your time and hard work shot down without a second thought.
